The State of Creative Photography

The State of Creative Photography image
The Current State of Creative Photography as seen at the Rencontres d’Arles (Meetings at Arles), VISA pour l’image: International Festival of Photojournalism which takes place in Perpignan France and Paris Photo 2021!

After the cancelation of most festivals, including photo-festivals in 2020, 2021 and the re-opening of venues was a relief. The question was how the pandemic would have affected not the production of photographs and their presentation. So far, the trend initiated by the replacement of photographers as founders and directors of fine-art photo festivals by people whose experience had previously been in museum institutions, galleries or academia has been confirmed… with consequences. In other areas such as photojournalism, historical retrospectives (Vivian Maier at the Palais du Luxembourg, or MoMA’s Thomas Walther collection at the Jeu de Paume (National Center of Photography), and even the fine-art photography market (as illustrated by Paris Photo in November), the song has remained the same. This presentation, illustrated by numerous examples, will review the current state of photography in France.
