Employment: Digital Arts Youth Program Teacher

The Photography & Digital Arts Department of Flower City Arts Center, 713 Monroe Ave., is in need of a digital arts teacher for our 2020 Our Vision Our Voice program, an after-school teen digital arts program for girls.

This is a 12 week program that will meet once a week for 3 hours. During this time students will produce a full-color magazine from concept, content creation to final design and layout. Our Vision, Our Voice gives young women the opportunity to learn new skills, and empowers them to share their experiences and dreams with the community. Content for their magazine may include personal poems and stories; interviews with neighbors, teachers, and friends; photographs captured in both a professional lighting studio and out in the community; and drawings and digital illustrations.

Teachers meet for 12 teaching sessions.

Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite programs including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
Must be able to teach both the basics and more intermediate knowledge in all 3 programs.
Have some prior experience working with youth and be willing to establish mentoring relationships.
Commit to ALL meetings and be consistently available via phone or email.
Other helpful skills include studio lighting, creative writing (there will be a creative writing teacher you will partner with), digital photography, and basic knowledge of scanning
Teachers are paid as independent contractors on a bi-weekly schedule at $22/hour for 3 hours a week. Be aware that you may need to devote additional hours per week to planning activities, and contacting families/following up with students.
