Artist Statement

I make work that is inspired by the textures and patterns of everyday life. Influenced by growing up in an eclectic household filled with handmade things and surrounded by gardens, my serving vessels, functional ware, and decorative tile use digitally cut vinyl and screen-printing techniques to create high contrast graphic patterns and textures that reflect my observations in the garden and beyond. The tightly constructed slab-built forms are contrasted with a white earthy glaze that softens in the kiln creating bold surfaces that make the work uniquely recognizable. My work is made from a brown stoneware clay body and fired to cone six in an electric kiln. You can find me, most days, listening to NPR from my home studio in Morgantown, WV.
