Marret Metzger

Artist Statement

My work draws inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement, Art Nouveau, woodcut prints, and Tiffany Glass. Raised in the rural Midwest, I’m deeply influenced by the skilled craftspeople in my community and family. These ceramic vessels combine the utilitarian nature of folk pottery with the delicate nature of porcelain. My mark making style is reflective of my relief printmaking background, and I sgraffito my subjects to create texture and visual depth. I draw on my love for watercolor and stained glass to incorporate color, often highlighting native flora and fauna. My art seeks to bring awareness to fragile ecosystems, encouraging a deeper connection to and care for the natural world.
