This introductory course explores the core practices of creating non-fiction, documentary-style films or short videos. Together, we will learn the fundamentals of documentary filmmaking, including interview techniques, B-roll collection, and essential skills in editing, lighting, camera operation, and sound. Students will have opportunities to film both in and outside of class, with guidance and feedback throughout the process. No high-end equipment is required. A smartphone, a DSLR/ mirrorless camera with video capability, or a basic video camera is sufficient.
