STUDIO 678 YOUTH PHOTOGRAPHY TEACHERS

The Photography & Digital Arts Department of Flower City Arts Center, 713 Monroe Ave., is hiring film photography teachers for our 2025-2026 after-school photography and writing program. Our students are 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who attend middle school in the Rochester City School District.

Program Goals:

  • Empower youth to express their vision and voice
  • Enable youth to build life skills
  • Encourage youth to connect with the community, through field trips
  • Enhance knowledge of school subjects, through practical application
  • Energize youth to work together in groups
  • Establish mentoring relationships

We are looking for lead photography teachers on Thursdays (12:30p-6:30p). Our lead photography teachers work with the same group of 6 students throughout the program on Thursdays. Teachers meet for 25 teaching sessions from September 25th, 2025 - April 9th, 2026. Attendance is also required for monthly Saturday field trips, a few training sessions before and during the program, monthly teacher meetings hanging the student’s artwork at The Link Gallery in City Hall in March, along with the program’s culminating Awards Ceremony, Book Release, and Exhibition Reception at The Link Gallery; dates TBD.

Lead Teachers Skills/Experience:

  • Know how to use a 35mm film camera and how to make black and white prints in the darkroom
  • Have some prior experience working with youth and be willing to establish mentoring relationships
  • Be able to commit to all meetings and be reasonably available via phone or email
  • Other helpful skills include studio lighting, matting & framing, creative writing, and basic knowledge of scanning
  • We do not expect every teacher to be an expert in all areas, we can provide training/assistance as needed

HIGH SCHOOL PHOTO CLUB YOUTH PHOTOGRAPHY TEACHERS

The Photography & Digital Arts Department of Flower City Arts Center, 713 Monroe Ave., is in need of digital photography teachers for our 2025-2026 Tuesday after-school photography and video program. Our students are 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students who attend high school in the Rochester City School District.

Program Goals:

  • Empower youth to express their vision and voice
  • Enable youth to build technical, entrepreneurial, and life skills
  • Encourage youth to connect with the community, through field trips
  • Enhance knowledge of school subjects, through practical application
  • Energize youth to work together in groups
  • Establish mentoring relationships

Our lead photography teachers work with the same group of 6 students throughout the program. Teachers are required to work for 26 teaching sessions on Tuesdays (2:30p to 6:30p) from September 23rd, 2025 - April 7th, 2026. Attendance is also required for a few Saturday field trips, a few training sessions before and during the program, monthly teacher meetings, hanging the student’s artwork, along with the program’s culminating event dates, and location TBD.

Lead Teachers Must:

  • Know how to use a DSLR camera to take both still photographs as well as video
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and Premiere
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe InDesign, and Illustrator
  • Have some prior experience working with youth and be willing to establish mentoring relationships
  • Be able to commit to all meetings and be consistently available via phone or email
  • Other helpful skills include studio lighting, matting & framing
  • We do not expect every teacher to be an expert in all areas, we can provide training/assistance as needed

Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Job Summary: We are seeking a creative storyteller with a passion for the arts, with skills and experience in engaging communities with communications, marketing, and social media. They will be an integral and collaborative part of a dynamic team of artists, educators, and others in a warm, friendly Arts Center setting. This dynamic role requires a person who loves crafting compelling content and building relationships. Publicizing the art center’s community programs, classes, and events, this position will be responsible for public-facing relations and management of the visual branding across all platforms of promotion as a key member of the team, working closely with and supervised by the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create an overarching marketing strategy and plan for the organization that supports the Center’s strategic plan; tell the narrative of the Center; understand the intersection of the financial and creative needs
  • Manage social media - tell the story of the community and programs at Flower City Arts Center with compelling content
  • Use of design, photography, and video to create content in alignment with visual branding, including photo and video coverage at events, openings, and occasional classes
  • Act as liaison for web developer and designer for content and managing website changes
  • Post and manage class listings online, advertising, and print distributions
  • Coordinate Center-wide advertising, print media, and distribution
  • Database management
  • Analytics - tracking metrics of website, newsletters, event information, etc.
  • Represent FCAC at networking events – neighborhood and city-wide
  • Employ consistent visual, verbal, and written communication skills to convey the voice and vision of Flower City Arts Center and share it effectively, highlighting key facets of the community in press releases to relevant news outlets
  • Build and organize photo/asset library
  • Work with the Executive Director and Development Director to create appeals and reports

Knowledge/Skills Required:

  • Visual and written storyteller - convey the voice and vision of Flower City Arts Center and share it effectively, capturing the human interest elements
  • Demonstrate a high dedication to customer service
  • Highly skilled at building a Center content calendar
  • Knowledge of website management and social media platforms
  • Knowledge of marketing software and programs, such as Constant Contact
  • Skills in photography, graphic design, video, and written and verbal communications
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively communicate with staff interdepartmentally, Center members, students, renters, and collaborative community partners; good balance between being team-oriented and independent
  • Professionally represent the organization in the community, at meetings, festivals, public events, and with the media, etc.
  • Ability to multitask, be organized enough to manage a variety of projects, meet deadlines, and stay calm under pressure

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Design, Arts, or related field preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Strong experience in marketing, public relations, social media, and communications in the not-for-profit or arts sectors (3-5 years)

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

Pay Range: $19-$22 / hour
