Inspired by the masterful work of Edward Steichen, this immersive camp invites students to explore the intersection of nature and fine art photography. Through collaboration with the George Eastman Museum, students will study Steichen’s legacy and view his original prints firsthand.
Using the "Flower City" as their studio, budding artists will learn the fundamentals of 35mm film photography while capturing Rochester’s most iconic botanical landscapes. Field trips include the George Eastman Museum, Highland Park, Lamberton Conservatory, and the historic Ellwanger Estate.
Students will then transition from the garden to the darkroom to develop film and create their own silver gelatin prints. The week concludes with a deep dive into color, where students will learn to transform black-and-white images using traditional hand-coloring techniques. This class is perfect for nature lovers eager to master the timeless art of analog photography.
