The course is geared toward those with no prior exposure (pun intended) to the kallitype process, but experience in a darkroom is very helpful. The course provides an introduction to the process, including background and history. By the end of the 2nd session, students will make kallitype prints using their own images from negatives made during class. By the end of the final session, students will be skilled in properly coating paper, exposing negatives, and developing, toning, and fixing their prints.
Students should come prepared with digital image files to be printed using the kallitype process, plus your curiosity and interest in getting hands-on with this fun process.
Instructors Jen and Nancy learned the kallitype process at the Flower City Arts Center and have been practicing it for years, exhibiting their work, and sharing their knowledge and tips in local artist talks. This course allows them to share everything they have learned and inspire photographers to try something new.
Included: $40 for materials. All materials will be provided, including chemistry, paper, and plastic film transparency.
