Winter nights offer a magical, almost surreal quality for photography. In this class, you will explore the art of capturing images after dark, visiting picturesque field trip locations with a group of fellow photography enthusiasts. Learn techniques for making stronger low-light images, including calculating long exposures with a hand-held light meter and experimenting with various light sources to fill shadows and create special effects. We will cover technical essentials such as ISO, exposure, composition, and other key considerations unique to night photography. Class time will include a work share where students can showcase their images, exchange tips, and discuss ideas for future nighttime outings.
Required: Working knowledge of your camera (film or digital SLR/ Mirrorless), a tripod (we can loan you one if needed), and the ability to share your images with the class, i.e., thumb drive, printed pictures, or images emailed to the instructor.
