Photographs captured in the winter at night can have a beautiful and almost surreal quality. Explore various aspects of photographing at night during the winter season with us at picturesque field trip locations. Students can get outdoors with a group of like-minded photography enthusiasts and learn techniques for making better images when shooting in low light. We will cover calculating long exposures using a hand-held light meter and try out various light sources to fill in shadows and achieve special effects. In class, we will discuss technical issues like ISO, exposure, composition, and other special considerations when photographing after dark. We will end with a class work share to see what everyone was able to capture and share tips and ideas for future outings.
Required: Working knowledge of your camera (film or digital SLR/ Mirrorless), a tripod (if you need to borrow one of our tripods, you can request one upon registering), and the ability to share your images with the class, i.e., thumb drive, photographic prints, or images emailed to the instructor.
