A Presentation by type design expert Herbert Johnson.
Bruce Rogers (1870 - 1957) was an American typographer and type designer, acclaimed by some as the greatest book designer of the twentieth century. Rogers was known for his "classical" style of design, rejecting modernism, never using asymmetrical arrangements, rarely using sans serif type faces, favoring stolid roman faces such as Caslon and his own Centaur. His books now fetch high sums at auction.
Mr. Johnson is a former RIT professor in book design. He was the Melbert B. Cary Jr. Professor of Graphic Arts (circa 1978-1983). Prior to joining RIT he served as production manager at the Teachers College Press at Columbia University. Earlier experience includes director of design and production for the MacMillan Company and book designer for Alfred Knopf.
This event is free. Small donations are appreciated.
