"My work is inspired by nature, stillness and dusty books, with a penchant for abandoned spaces, natural light, and whimsy. I try to create new worlds with my images, telling unrealistic stories that suddenly seem possible... surrealistic dreams that can come true.

I love the magic of the digital medium, and work almost exclusively with it. I am enchanted by digital photography, for it is the tool that allows me the freedom to express the odd stories I imagine. While at my computer, I work more like a painter or collage artist than a photographer, adding layers of texture and splashes of color to my work. Each piece is part photo, part collage, and part painting, and often a final image will consist of over fifty different components and layers.

I work mainly digitally, but discovered my passion for photography working alone in my college's darkroom at late hours, while everyone else was asleep. These days, when working with film, I will often pick up a Holga toy camera. This poorly made plastic camera creates unexpectedly stunning imagery, whose light leaks and odd effects create the same sort of dreamy quality that I strive for in my digital work.

Whether working in digital or film mediums, I try to stretch the boundaries of reality in my work. I want viewers to look twice and wonder, is this possible?" -Alison Tyne.
