The Gallery at Genesee Pottery will hold a juried exhibition featuring original works in traditional and contemporary pottery that incorporate historically-based design elements, themes, materials or applications in the creation of the work. Artists from around the country have submitted their work to be judged for prizes by nationally known ceramicist Val Cushing. Val received his BFA and MFA from the NYS College of Ceramics at Alfred University, where he taught for forty years, retiring in 1997. In addition, he has taught at Penland School of Crafts, Anderson Ranch, Peters Valley, Haystack and Touchstone, as well as in England, Norway, Spain and Ireland. Val has exhibited widely in the United States and has received several honors including the Regis Masters Award from the Northern Clay Center, and individual artist grants from the NEA, NCECA and the State University of New York. His work has been published widely, including a technical book, Cushings Handbook and a DVD by NCECA titled, Val Cushing, a Life in Clay".
