Celebrate our 100th anniversary! 2005 marks the centennial of the historic fire house holding the Genesee Center for the Arts and Education and its programs. To bring attention to our history, we will be offering a wide variety of events sure to draw attention to the Rochester Fire Departments long and heroic past, as well as the programs and activities of the Genesee Center. This book, "In the Finest Tradition: The History of the Rochester Fire Department, Courage, Compassion, Community", is all about the History of the Rochester Fire Department highlights stories from heroic firefighters whove served the city through the years, information about the changes the fire department has been through, descriptions of what fire fighting was like at the turn of the century, and features hundreds of vintage and current photos of the various fire house buildings, both active and reused (like the Center) spread throughout Rochester. Capt. Dan McBride from the Rochester Fire Dept will be on hand to talk about the book, sign copies and share a collection of photos not included in the book. This event is free, but a suggested donation of $2 would be appreciated.
