We’re so excited to welcome DC-based artist, Cecilia Cackley, to Flower City Arts Center to lead a special workshop on Saturday, September 26th, following her performance at Central Library during the Rochester Fringe Festival.

The Smallest Theater in the World: an introduction to teatro lambe-lambe

Build a tiny puppet theater show for one person in this workshop. Invented in Brazil in 1989, teatro lambe-lambe is a form of street theater that uses miniature puppets to tell stories for one person at a time.

In this workshop you'll storyboard a short piece, create puppets and a background and brainstorm how to bring your miniature world to life for the audience peeking through the peephole. Perfect for anyone interested in miniatures, puppetry and storytelling.

Participants should plan to bring a cardboard box - all other materials provided.

Cecilia Cackley is a puppeteer, playwright and teaching artist based in Washington DC. She is a co-founder of Wit’s End Puppets and co-creator of the shows Cabinets of Kismet, Saudade and Malevolent Creatures. Her bilingual children’s plays have been developed at the Kennedy Center’s New Visions/New Voices Festival and presented by GALA Hispanic Theater.

Cecilia studied teatro lambe-lambe with Gabriela Céspedes and has created miniature street theater inspired by a wide variety of themes such as creative women of the 20th century and traditional Mexican music. She has performed her lambe-lambe shows at both local and international events, including the World Puppetry Festival in Charleville-Méziéres, France. Cecilia currently teaches PreK visual art in a DC public school and has taught teatro lambe-lambe workshops for many ages, including a video lesson as part of the Kennedy Center’s Teaching Artists Present program.
