Aaron “Llyoid” Ickler

Aaron “Llyoid” Ickler (They/Them) is an inter-disciplinary artist working in Rochester, NY. A childhood interest in photography that later resurfaced in adulthood eventually led them to receiving their BFA from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse and then their MFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology. Their work investigates photography’s function in memory formation, both personal and collective, with an emphasis on physicality. Voraciously collecting photo books and magazines, for reference and collage, and using alternative processes, like cyanotype with bookbinding, their work stems from an intuitive making process. Currently they are conceptualizing the legend of the black dog to navigate masculine belonging within alter ego communities.
