Cliché Verre & Photographic Drawing

Cliché Verre & Photographic Drawing image

Cliché verre is a camera-less photographic method where the artist makes hand-made negatives by drawing on glass and printing copies in a black and white darkroom much like printmaking. In this course, students will learn about the traditional 19th century glass plate process and experiment with contemporary methods by working with a range of materials that span transparency films, stencils, opaque drawing materials, and inks.

Students will make their own hand-drawn negatives and through the contact printing process, transfer compositions to silver- gelatin prints in the black and white darkroom. This class is for a multitude of artists working with 2D media interested in experimenting with ways that draw, paint, and photography can come together.

Please bring your own black and white darkroom paper.
