After the Darkroom is an exhibition of photographs and writing by the 30 members of Studio 678, the Flower City Arts Center Photo Club, a 20 session photography and writing program, opens with an exhibition opening and reception on Saturday, August 14 2-4pm in The Sunken Room Gallery at Flower City Arts Center. This is the 23rd Anniversary of Studio 678.

The exhibition reception will follow on our outdoor patio. Over 40 photographs with writing will be on display through Saturday, August 28. A video presentation of student photographs set to music will be on display in the gallery alongside student’s framed work.

Studio 678 is the only program of its kind in the Rochester area that puts a professional 35mm camera into the hands of Rochester City School District middle school students to explore their community and involves them in the entire process of creating photography - from taking the pictures to making their own black & white prints in a darkroom to matting and framing their prints for exhibition. Visit the Photo Club website to learn more about the program.

Free to RCSD middle school students, the photography program was supported by The Art Connection and The Fay Slover Fund at The Boston Foundation, Archival Methods, Blessed Sacrament Church, Canfield & Tack, Create-A-Pizza, Community Darkroom photographers, Daisy Marquis Jones Foundation, Feinbloom Supporting Foundation, Greater Rochester Community Transportation Foundation, Joy of Giving Something, Kodak Alaris, William & Sheila Konar Foundation, Guido and Ellen Palma Foundation, PrintFile, Nancy Sands, Vicki & Richard Schwartz Family Fund, Janet Buchanan Smith, South East Area Coalition, Jeanne and Tom Verhulst, and many individual donors! The Greater Rochester Community Transportation Foundation provided a grant to pay for all of the transportation costs.
